What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to the present that enables us to slow down, pause, and be in the here and now so we can actually feel, know and enjoy what matters to us most.

Mindfulness helps us be more present, instead of constantly caught up in our thoughts, so we can have better focus, better relationships, take better actions and start responding in our life instead of reacting.

We all have our version of difficulties - no one gets a trouble-free life!  Mindfulness can support us in accepting and facing these challenges so we can be more resilient and calm.

I know all about mindfulness and MBSR because I used it to help me get through cancer treatment, and now 7 years later to levitate and heal small children.  Okay, those last two aren't actually true.

But mindfulness enables me to live a more rich and deeply fulfilling life than I otherwise would, or as Jon Kabat-Zinn says "to live life as if it really mattered".

People who've taken the course have reported feeling more calm and clear-headed, less stressed and reactive, more focussed at work, more connected to those around them, plus better sleep and overall wellbeing.

This course gave me lots of opportunity to look inside myself and allowed me to feel more comfortable in stressful situations and events.  Jan, our facilitator supported the group fantastically well.  I strongly recommend these sessions to attend and to learn to look after yourself.  Rating 5 stars out of 5.

Through this course, I learnt to respond to things and not to react to them.  This course has both big and small tips to be mindful and be in the moment.  It helped me a great deal in managing my thoughts and situations.

I feel more mindful of myself.  I’m more calm and relaxed.  I communicate better at work, it makes me think more before I give my opinion, not to be judgemental.

I’ve learned a lot, especially how to control my anxiety, also I found out what it really means to be mindful.  As a result I'm calmer, not rushing to do 10 things at the same time, trying to do things mindfully and be really present in the moment.  I'd recommend this programme to anyone to reduce stress, to learn to sit in stillness, judge less, become aware of how our thinking affects our physical state. I have seen big steps in my recovery after starting Jan’s course: less pain, more positive frame of mind...  Jan is an amazing instructor, I will definitely recommend her workshop to my friends and family. Jan has a wealth of knowledge and a big heart.

I've gained insight into how I respond and ways to manage my response, and I'm less reactive.  I'm feeling calmer and more in control of my mind. I listen more to understand the other person.  I'd recommend this course to anyone who wants to understand their own mind and thought processes and get more control in their life.

This course helped me be more mindful of how I am and in gaining skills to choose different ways of being.  Now I take time to slow down, breathe and check in with myself.  I believe this course is a great way in which to focus your life and reconnect with oneself.

This course was like a treasure box of insight each week. Learning that mindfulness is not about fixing anything was a revelation. Starting the journey of just 'being' was wonderful & nothing short of profound.  I'm using what I learnt each day in many different settings.  It's been particularly helpful at helping me learn to be kinder to myself & others.  Family and friends tell me I'm calmer, striving less and smiling more.   Jan puts in so much work & brings so much kindness & generosity to the experience you can't help but want to learn from her.
